This research field explores the use of paper as a substrate for the production of electronic components and devices. The main goal is to find alternatives to non-renewable and non-recycled substrates used today and especially the synthetic polymers we refer to as plastics.
Paper is a composite material made of refined wood fibers. It has major potentials for being produced through sustainable life-cycles and are notably made of renewable resources thus biodegradable, but also much easier to recycled and much more recycled today than plastics. BUt this point belongs to another research field.
These pages primarily focuse on the scientific and technical research performed to physically and chemical specifications of the papers and the components or devices built from them.
