MIDI-based Sound Controls

MIDI stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface: it is a set of technical standards that enabled to manufacture wide range of DIgital Music Intruments and sound sythetisers since the 1980's. It is actually composed of complimentary software and hardware elements: a communications protocol, a digital interface, and electrical connectors that connect a wide variety of electronic musical instruments, computers, and related audio devices for playing, editing and recording music.

It is possible to build oneself efficient MIDI controllers using paper-sensors, arduino-boards (or eauivalent ADCs) and open-source softwares such as processing. We present here various strategies for building such instruments as well as application examples showing the potential of DIY Sound Controllers.
