Raw Materials & Tools

A variety of everyday materials can be used when buiding DIY electronics: papers, wood, textiles and plastics will generally be used as insulators, dieletric elements or for other mechanical or optical properties, while metals will be used as conductors and constitute the circuit.

It is also possible to find semi-conducting, magnetic, and even thermoluminescent or electroluminescent materials that can ne purchased online as specialty electronic materials resources.

Less obviously, electro-active materials can be discovered by hazard in such places as art shop where the seller and even the paper manufacturer do not know that their paper is sometimes electrically conductive, depending on what elements their are made of.

However, searching for such materials takes to use a measurement tools, as one cannot vuisually know if a material is conductive or not.
